A lesson in the sky

I woke up today to an empty room. Ash had an interview at 10am so she had to leave quite early. I heard the door close but it didn't really faze me.

At around 11am I decided to roll out of bed and start getting ready so I could meet Martha for lunch at 12:30. My suitemate jumped into the bathroom and I wasn't able to get in until about 12:15. Thankfully, I take my showers at night so I just had to refresh myself. While I waited, I decided to start on my research paper. (It seems as though every Belmont student has a research paper or some paper. I have three...plus finals!) I began typing and got to about half a page when I decided to put on some Christian music. I tuned my computer to Star 99.1 fm, the NYC christian music channel. I love how they stream the music online. A girl in Nashville could feel she's at home by listening to her home radio station.

I stared out the window at the bright day. By this time, the trees were swaying in the breeze but the sky was a bit cloudy. After being a little disappointed the day was going to be a little cloudy, I turned back to my computer. After a few sentences, I turned to look out the window again and the clouds were still there. This time, though, my eyes traveled upward. Way beyond the cloudy grey, was this magnificent, beautiful blue sky with just one little puffy cloud. God began to speak to me in that moment...

How often do we concern ourselves with just what's ahead of us? It's like we put blinders on and just focus on what's ahead, not what's to the left or the right or upward. Sometimes if we just concern ourselves with what's in front of us, we miss the point that the Lord is above. The Bible encourages us that when things seem dire, to keep looking up because that's where our salvation lies. Today's weather was just a lesson to not keep yourself down by what you see in front of you. When there seems to be a grey cloud coming to meet you, look up and remember you have Jesus on your side.

Just a thought...Have a good Saturday!
